Back in Japan
I’m back. I had great experiences in Cuba. I would like to share some of them with you.
The most impressive thing was local people’s lives. I stayed in a residential district. At first, their life style seemed inconvenient (at least to me). They don’t have a good internet connection, enough hot water. However, I envy their lives. They are not restricted by time and electronic things. I saw they enjoyed talking, smoking, and listening to music on streets. I was able to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city life in Japan.
As you know, Cuba is a socialist country. They have some different systems from those in Japan. One of them is the distribution system. My roommates (from Spain and Argentina) and I met a local man. He showed us a place where people get rationed goods. They can get daily necessities at much cheaper price. Then, he showed us his ration book that was necessary to get these goods. I was not able to read it but there were some recordings. He said those were not enough to make a living.
I saw many things and met a lot of people throughout the trip. I cannot explain my experiences well even in Japanese… (Gomez)
