平昌冬季五輪で連覇を果たした羽生結弦選手が、世界選手権の欠場を発表しました。

Pyeongchang Winter Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu will not participate in the World Figure Skating Championships that are due to start on March 21 in Milan, Italy, the Japan Skating Federation announced Wednesday.

The 23-year-old was diagnosed with injuries to his peroneal tendon and ligaments of his right ankle’s outer side, and is expected to need about two weeks of rest and three months of rehabilitation treatments, according to the federation.

Hanyu issued a comment via the federation saying: “Thank you for your huge support. I have become unable to compete in the world championships, but I will thoroughly receive treatments and rehabilitation and will continue doing what I can do step by step, so that I will be able to come back as soon as possible.

今回、羽生選手は右足関節外側靭帯と腓骨筋腱損傷のため、約2週間の安静と3ヶ月のリハビリが必要と診断されました。私たち観客側としては寂しいものがありますが、同選手は「1日も早く復帰できるよう、治療とリハビリをしっかりとし、少しずつできることを続けていきます。」とコメントしています。私も一ファンとして先の五輪で素晴らしい演技をし、冬季五輪連覇を果たしたあの羽生結弦がまた氷上の闘いの舞台へと帰ってくるのを心待ちにするばかりです。(sixth-dan)
