Kobe Steel president to resign over data scandal

Kobe Steel Ltd. said Tuesday that its Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Hiroya Kawasaki, 63, will step down on April 1 to take responsibility for product quality data manipulation at its corporate group.

Kobe Steel Executive Vice President Akira Kaneko, 63, who is head of the company’s aluminum and copper operations, will also resign from those posts to take the blame for the irregularities.

The company released an external investigation committee’s final report, showing that six additional cases of product data falsification have been found.

　LDOCEには “a deep-seated attitude, feeling, or idea is strong and is very difficult to change” と定義されています。deep-rootedも同じ意味で用いられるようです。

　seatには座席や議席などの他にも、所在地や中心地といった意味もあります。これにdeepがつくことで、根強い、根深いなどの一点に深く残る様子を表す言葉になるのではないかと思いました。（aqua）
