福島県の願いとしてお米の包括的な検査を2020年には終わらせたいというものがあります。
Japan's northeastern prefecture of Fukushima hopes to end a blanket radiation test for locally grown rice in 2020 at the earliest.
Governor Masao Uchibori told the prefectural assembly on Friday that officials want to change to sample testing when no rice is found with higher-than-permitted radiation levels for 5 consecutive years.
The checks started after the 2011 nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. Officials have not found any rice that exceeds the permitted levels for the past 3 years.
But Uchibori indicated that the full-scale tests will continue in 12 municipalities near the plant.
The checks are a burden for farmers who have to bring their harvested rice to the test sites. The cost of maintaining the test equipment is another problem.
A panel of experts began reviewing the testing system last year.
