clamber を取り上げます。climb とのニュアンスの違いが気になりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、「（手足を使って苦労して）よじ登る，はうように進む」などと載っておりました。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) には、 climb or move in an awkward and laborious way, typically using both hands and feetと定義されております。今では使われることがありませんが、climbの過去形clambから転じてできた単語とのことです。

したがって、文中では毎日大変な思いをして崖を登っているというニュアンスで用いられていると思います。またclimb との違いは、上記の定義通り、這いつくばう感じが足されている点です。(Gomez)
