Takanohana stumbles badly in bid to shake up sumo world

While Takanohana is fondly remembered by fans as one of the great yokozuna, his popularity does not extend to the point that sumo elders want him in their ranks.

“run into a brick wall”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、“hit [come up against, run up against] a brick wall”で「〈人・計画などが〉壁に突き当たる、行き詰まる」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“be / come up against a (brick) wall”で“to reach a point where you cannot make progress, especially because something or someone is stopping you”と定義されていました。今回の記事では“run into a brick wall”という形で使われているので、どちらの辞書にも載っていない形ですが、文脈などから同じ意味で使われているのではないかと思います。(Blue Sky)
