face the musicを取りあげます。LDOCEでは“to accept criticism or punishment for something you have done”と定義されているように「（自分の不始末で）罰、批判を受ける」を表すことがわかりました。なぜ、musicが使われているのか『ブルーワー英語故事成語大辞典』（大修館書店）で調べると、おそらく劇場の舞台からきた表現であるためだそうです。さらに意味のところに「自ら招いた結果にへこたれない、不利な状況でも強い立場を貫く」とあり、会見で詐欺罪になるのではという記者の質問に対し、「そういうつもりはなかった」と強く強調している様子も表しているように思いました。(flying bird)
