アップルがすべてのマックシステムとIOS装置に２種類のチップ欠陥を確認したことを発表しました。

Apple has confirmed all its Mac systems and iOS devices are affected by two recently disclosed processor flaws called Spectre and Meltdown.
In an announcement on Thursday, Apple(AAPL) said it has released mitigations to defend against Meltdown in iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2. It will release mitigations in Safari to defend against the Spectre bug "in the coming days," the release said.

mitigationを取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』で調べると「〔…の〕緩和、鎮静」とあり、特に法による減刑を意味します。LDOCEではin mitigation で“law if you say something in mitigation, you try to make someone’s crime or mistake seem less serious or show that they were not completely responsible” “formal a reduction in how unpleasant, harmful, or serious a situation is”と定義されています。
続いてalleviationとの違い確認しました。LDOCEでalleviateを引くと““to make something less painful or difficult to deal with”と定義されています。日本語の意味では分からないニュアンスの違いを確認できました。(Kiwi girl)
