今年度の全米映画の興行収入ランキングが明かになりました。
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- After two consecutive record-breaking years at the domestic box office, 2017 was the year the momentum slowed -- even with the late adrenaline boost of a new "Star Wars" film.
When all is said and done on Jan. 1, the domestic box office is estimated to net out with $11.1 billion in grosses, down around 2.6 percent from 2016's $11.4 billion, according to projections from box office tracker comScore. Looked at another way, it's also likely to be the third highest grossing year in cinema history.

net outを取りあげます。netは先日にaquaさんが書いているように「網で捕まえる、ボールをネットに打ち込む」といった意味がありますが、こちらの記事では「（人・企業などが）…の利益をあげる、…の収入を得る」としても使われています（『ジーニアス英和辞典』大修館書店より）。そこにさらにoutがつくとLDOCEでは“if an amount of money nets out at a particular amount, it is that amount after taxes etc are taken away”と定義されているように「差引額」を表します。
今のところアメリカでは、1位「美女と野獣」2位「スター・ウォーズ 最後のジェダイ」3位「ワンダーウーマン」、日本では1位「美女と野獣」2位「ファンタスティック・ビーストと魔法使いの旅」3位「怪盗グルーのミニオン大脱走」とそれぞれ違いますが、1位の「美女と野獣」は共通しているようです。(flying bird)
