toddler/tɑ́dlɚ/を取り上げます。文脈的に後ろに2歳未満のとあるので赤ちゃん・幼児を意味すると推測しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』を引くと「よちよち歩きの幼児、歩き始めの子」とありました。LDOCEを引くと“‘a very young child who is just learning to work”と定義されています。
また同義語にbabyとあったので定義を確認すると“a very young child who has not yet learned to speak or walk”とありました。babyは小さい子どもに幅広く使用されているイメージがありましたが実際の意味では歩けるようになるまでの子どもを指しているようです。(Kiwi girl)
