　capricious に注目します。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、 「気まぐれな」、「衝動的な」、「不安定な」などと載っておりました。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) では、 “given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behavior”と定義されております。この記事の場合、「気まぐれな」というよりも「突然の」といったニュアンスかと思います。
　語源はイタリア語で、capriccio（「奇想曲，気まぐれ」）と元は同じです。Weblioには “From Italian capriccio ("sudden start または motion"), capro ("goat"), from Latin capreolus ("wild goat")” と書かれております。(Gomez)
