Shinjiro Koizumi, a son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, wore a sukajan, or satin blouson jacket with embroidery on the back, during the recent House of Representatives election campaign. His choice became a talking point. Praised as one of the key players in the Liberal Democratic Party’s victory, he chose not to dress like the typical candidate — a hachimaki headband, a tasuki sash with his or her name on it, and a suit. Touted as a promising young politician, Koizumi instead chose the sukajan — a jacket born in his native city of Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.

embroidery /ɪmˈbrɔɪd(ə)ri,ɛmˈbrɔɪd(ə)ri/ を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、「刺繍」、「（物語などの）潤色，脚色」などと載っておりました。動詞はembroiderです。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) によると、"the art or pastime of embroidering cloth"と定義されております。
語源はフランス語のenbrouderで、enが “in. on”を指し、brouderが “decorate with embroidery”という意味だそうです。en無しでも「刺繍をする」という意味になるのでbroiderだけでも使えるようですが、古い英語なのでembroiderという方が一般的です。(Gomez)
