Gingko trees regale visitors to the Meiji Jingu Gaien area in Tokyo on Wednesday. About 140 gingko trees have started to display their autumnal yellow, about a week earlier than usual, according to the administrative office of the area. The foliage is expected to be at its finest in mid-November or later.

“regale” /rɪgéɪl/を取りあげます。文脈から「惹きつける」などに近い意味かと思いました。Merriam-Websterでは“to give pleasure or amusement to”とあり、「喜ばせる、楽しませる」となることがわかりました。『英辞郎 on the web』では“regale oneself with”で「〜を楽しむ、おいしく味わう」とありました。
黄色に色づいたいちょう並木はとてもきれいですが、臭いが気になります。臭いの原因を調べてみるとなんと人間の足の臭いと同じ物質が含まれているそうです。(flying bird)
