Japanese white bread makes debut in Paris
A bakery selling chewy white bread made of Japanese flour has opened in Paris.
“We hope people will get to know how tasty Japanese flour and bread are” in this gourmet city, Michio Hasegawa, president of the operator of the bakery, said at the shop’s unveiling ceremony on Tuesday.
The white bread sold at the bakery, Carre Pain de Mie, uses flour made in the town of Biei in Hokkaido.

chewy /tʃúːi/ を取り上げます。動詞ではchewですが、それにyがついて形容詞の形になっています。かみごたえがあるという意味になりそうです。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）で確認すると「（食べ物が）かみごたえのある」とありました。
LDOCEには “food that is chewy has to be chewed a lot before it is soft enough to swallow” と定義されています。
上記の英和辞典のchewの項目には「かむ」にもいろいろあり、ひと口かむのはbite、よくかんで細かくするのはchew、音をたててかみ砕くのはcrunchとまとめられています。日本の白いパンの場合、chewyを用いると、もちもちとした食感を表すことができるのではないかと思いました。（aqua）
