“gut-wrenching”を取りあげます。そのまま訳すと「はらわたがよじれるような」となりますが、Merriam-Websterで“causing mental or emotional anguish ”と定義されているように心情を表すことが分かりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）で確認すると「ひどく不安にさせる、心を引き裂くような」とあります。ただのもやもやとしたものではなく、身体の内側から湧いてくるような不安が、現場の被害の大きさを物語っていると思いました。
生存率が低くなってしまう「被災から72時間」に達してしまう前に少しでも多くの人が救出されることを祈ります。(flying bird)
