　“hold one’s tongue”に注目しました。文脈、そして使われている単語から意味をだいたい推測できますが、気になったので調べてみました。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「黙っている」とありました。確認のためにLDOCEも引いたところ、こちらでは“spoken used to tell someone to stop talking or to not tell someone about something”と定義されていました。インターネットで検索していると「口をつぐむ」という訳が充てられていることが多いように思います。
