Safety confirmed of iPS cells in monkeys with Parkinson’s

A Kyoto University research team said that it has confirmed the safety and function of cells produced from human induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells that were transplanted to monkeys exhibiting a model of Parkinson’s disease.

The team led by Jun Takahashi, professor at the university’s Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) will file for approval from a university committee by autumn 2018 to start clinical research in humans. It plans to begin the research at Kyoto University Hospital in fiscal 2018.

The team’s research article was published online in British scientific journal Nature on Thursday.

　気になった表現は “file for” です。名詞で考えると、カタカナで「ファイル」と使われますが、ここでは動詞として用いられています。forがつくとどのような意味になるのでしょうか。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）を引いたところ、“file for …” で「（法律）…を法的に申し込む、申し立てる」とありました。
