Japan saw its first world championship title in Greco-Roman wrestling in 34 years on Tuesday, as Kenichiro Fumita won the gold medal in the 59-kilogram division in Paris.

Fumita defeated Mirambek Ainagulov of Kazakhstan 2-1 in the final, making him Japan’s first Greco-Roman world champion since Masaki Eto won at 57 kilograms in 1983.

At 21 years 8 months old, Fumita is the youngest Japanese medalist at an Olympics or world championships in Greco-Roman, according to the Japan Wrestling Federation. He also became the fourth Japanese overall to win a global championship in that style.
