　“make one’s presence felt”を取り上げます。直訳すると「〜の存在を感じ取らせる」といった具合になり、そのままでも理解できそうです。念のために『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「自分の存在をアピールする」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“to have a strong and noticeable effect on the people around you or the situation you are in”と定義されています。「自分をアピールする」を英語にするときに日本語に引っ張られて“appeal”のみを使ってしまいそうなので、このフレーズも覚えておきたいと思います。(Blue Sky)
