　すでにご存知の方も多いと思いますが、猫に噛まれ女性が感染死しました。

diarrhea /ˌdʌɪəˈrɪə/を取り上げます。並んで書かれているfeverとvomitの意味は知っていたのですが、この単語は知らなかったので調べました。

　『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第5版，大修館）で調べたところ、 diarrhea で「下痢，下痢便」と書かれておりました。語源はギリシャ語で、diarが横ぎって、rheaが流れるを表します。この二つが組み合わさって、「腸内を貫流する」という意味になったようです。ちなみに記事内で用いられているdiarrhoea は英式綴りです。Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)にも、 "a condition in which feaces are discharged from the bowels frequently and in a liquid form"と定義されております。
　豆知識になりますが、腸や内臓を指すbowelを使って下痢の症状を表すこともできます。以下は『新和英大辞典』（第五版，研究社）からの引用（C&P）です。

下痢を止める
bind the bowels (stop the diarrhea)

下痢をしている
have loose in the bowels (have loose diarrhea)

また下痢便はwatery stools と表せるようです。
