　“ruefully”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、“rueful”という形容詞の形で載っており、「悲しそうな；悔やんでいる」と定義さていました。“ruefully”は副詞の形です。また、LDOCEには“feeling or showing that you wish you had not done something”とありました。日本語の定義を見たときに“sad”と意味が似ているなと思いましたが、英英辞書の定義を見る限り、“rueful”にはやってしまったことを悔やむ、というようなニュアンスになるようです。(Blue Sky)
