　福島県いわき市の薄磯海水浴場で海開きが行われました。東日本大震災後、7年ぶりの再開となります。

Fukushima’s top beach welcomes swimmers for 1st time since 3/11

Usuiso beach, once regarded as one of the 100 most beautiful seashores in Japan, welcomed its first holidaymakers in seven years July 15.

Before the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster that triggered the triple meltdown at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, Usuiso drew the most visitors of any beach in Fukushima Prefecture.

Each summer, beaches around Japan hold elaborate ceremonies to welcome visitors to the start of the swimming season. Usuiso held its ceremony July 15.

　holidaymakerを取り上げます。直訳で考えると「休日をつくる人」ですが、そこから考えて「休日を楽しむ人」といった意味合いになりそうです。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「（英）休暇の行楽客、休暇を楽しむ人」とありました。主にイギリス英語で用いられ、アメリカではvacationerが一般的のようです。

　LDOCEには “British English someone who has travelled to a place on holiday” と定義されています。

　砂浜や海水の放射線量や濃度は原発事故が起こる前と同じくらいにまで戻ったとのことで、この海水浴場での海開きは8月15日までの期間で行われます。今日も一日本当に暑く、記事の写真を見ると海に飛び込みたくなりました。（aqua）
