Part time job
Friday last week, I worked as a part-time interpreter. Let me tell you here what I did.
People from Yamagata-shi came to Toranomon to promote the city, including its famous local product Satounishiki as well as its traditional event, Hanagasa festival. They were in need of a person who can speak English and Japanese because they wanted to make the city known in the world. Thus, I was called upon for that reason.
Looking back, however, I am not sure if I was a good translator. Because I just talked in English. I realized how difficult interpretation was. It gave me a good lesson. If I have a chance again, I want to interpret better.
I would like to thank Dr. Tanabe and Dr. Katagiri for giving me this great experience. Also, I hasten to add here that I really appreciate kindness of the city people. I have become a great fan of the city of Yamagata! (Gomez)
