Oxford Living Dictionaryによると“run deep”ともいい、“(of emotions, beliefs, et.) be strongly and wholeheartedly felt or held.”と定義されいます。また、先生からStill waters run deep. / The river runs deep.という諺とそこからの曲名も紹介していただきました。前者は「能ある鷹は爪を隠す」に通じるとのことです。
以前、ブログでも「根深い、蓄積している」などの意味が紹介されていますが、ここでは天候も良くなく試合を「長期化する」ことは困難だとティエム選手は思っていたことがわかります。(flying bird)
