President Donald Trump’s decision to yank the United States out of the Paris Agreement on climate change is simply outrageous. It is yet another example of his self-centered behavior driven by his “America First” credo.

“credo”を取り上げたいと思います。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、「信条、主義(creed)」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“a formal statement of the beliefs of a particular person, group, religion etc”と定義されています。“credo”はラテン語からきている表現で、綴りは同じで「私は信じる」という意味を持つ単語であるそうです(goo辞書)。ちなみに、“cred-”には「信じる」という意味があります。例えば、“credit”のような頭に“cred-”がつく表現は、「信用、信頼」という言葉が関わる表現になっています。
