Hayao Miyazaki back to work on his final project, a full-length film

The maestro is back--again.

Acclaimed anime genius Hayao Miyazaki, 76, has called it quits on retirement to embark on a new feature film, Studio Ghibli Inc. said on its website May 19, without elaborating on the theme on which he is working.

“The director has decided to retract his retirement and to make a feature-length animated movie,” the website stated. “It is nothing other than the fact that he found material worth to make a movie on.”

The news comes after the director of “Spirited Away,” which landed an Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature in 2003, and “Howl’s Moving Castle,” among other works, announced his retirement in September 2013.

　maestro /mάɪstroʊ/ を取り上げます。日本語でもカタカナで「マエストロ」と言いますが、イタリア語から入ってきたことばで「大音楽（作曲）家、名指揮者」という意味があります。（『ライトハウス英和辞典』　第5版　研究社）また、音楽だけではなく、一般に芸術の大家を表すときもこの単語が使われるようです。

　LDOCEには “someone who can do something very well, especially a musician” と定義されています。

　語源が気になったので調べてみると、Online Etymology Dictionaryには “"master of music, great teacher or composer," 1797, from Italian maestro, literally "master," from Latin magisterium” と説明されており、英語で考えるとmasterにあたるイタリア語であることがわかりました。（aqua）
