SAKAI, Osaka Prefecture--A sonic survey of the inner moat of Japan's largest keyhole-shaped burial mound is offering new insights into the scale of the massive fifth century landmark.
It was the first such survey carried out by the Imperial Household Agency, which manages the tomb.

“sonic survey”を取り上げます。

　まず、“sonic”ですがLDOCEでは“relating to sound, sound waves, or the speed of sound”と定義されています。語源は“sound”に“-ic”の指小辞がついたラテン語の“sonus”だそうです。
　よって“sonic survey”で「音波調査」となります。宮内庁の調査の許可が今までおりなかったことから、仁徳天皇のものであるかは不明で、「仁徳天皇陵」と言われることは少なくなっているようです。(flying bird)
