UNSC to meet over N. Korea missile firing
NEW YORK (Jiji Press) — The U.N. Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday, at the request of Japan, the United States and South Korea on Sunday, to discuss its action against North Korea in the wake of the country’s latest ballistic missile launch.
This will be the first UNSC emergency meeting over North Korea since March.

“in the wake of”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、“in the wake of A”で「Aの通った後に；Aにならって、続いて；A〈出来事など〉の結果として[によって]」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“if something, especially something bad, happens in the wake of an event, it happens afterwards and usually as a result of it”と定義されています。“in the wake of”で用いられている“wake”は「起きる」をという意味の“wake”とは異なるものです。この“wake”は名詞で「航跡、(船などが通った後の)波の跡；(物の)通った跡」という意味を持ちます。(Blue Sky)
