So maybe it was inevitable that hairy armpits would come round again. They are certainly enjoying a moment. Instagram is awash with pictures of girls with their eyes lowered, arms seductively raised, cleavage tumbling out, a hint of nipple and a brazen display of hair.

But as for young women rejecting anything that pleases men, the reality could not be farther from the truth. It’s as feminist as a wet T-shirt competition.

There’s even a free dating website for ‘singles interested in hairy armpits’.

Don’t worry, it will all get boring again soon, and attention-hungry 20-somethings will move on.

　今回はcleavage /ˈkliːvɪdʒ/ を取り上げます。Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “a sharp division, especially of a fertilized egg cell”と “the hollow between woman’s breasts when supported, especially as exposed by a low-cut garment”の二つが定義されております。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「（女性のドレスのえりもとから見える）胸の谷間，（意見・人間関係などの）裂け目・分裂」などと載っておりました。

　いずれの意味も「溝」に近いものを表していることが分かります。（Gomez）
