Ice skating stars, kabuki actors take to rink together

For a program later this month, kabuki actors will be joined by unlikely partners from a different field — figure skating.

Ichikawa Somegoro, an actor from the traditional performing art, will star in “Hyoen 2017 Basara” from May 20 to 22, along with Daisuke Takahashi and Shizuka Arakawa, both of whom are Olympic medalists who became professional skating performers after retiring from competitions.

The show, which will take place at the Yoyogi 1st Gymnasium in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, will offer two performances each day.

In the classical kabuki repertoire, Yoshitsune rarely wields a sword to fight on his own. But Somegoro has something in mind for his program, based on a famous story that the warrior jumped from boat to boat during a crucial battle.

　日本語でもレパートリーとカタカナになっていますが、英語の綴りではrepertoireと　　　　　　　　　　　　　なり、　/ˈrep.ɚ.twɑːr/ と発音されます。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）には「（フランス語から）（普通は単数形で）レパートリー、上演目録、演奏曲目（いつでも演じることができる作品群）」とありました。その次の項目にrepertory /ˈrep.ɚ.tɔːr.i/ が載っていました。こちらは「1（演劇）レパートリー方式（専属の劇団がそのレパートリーを順繰りに上演する方式）　2（格式）=repertoire」とあり、演劇の分野のことばとしても使われるようです。

　LDOCEには “all the plays, pieces of music etc that a performer or group knows and can perform” や “the total number of things that someone or something is able to do” と定義されています。2つ目の「できる範囲」という意味合いでは、「料理のレパートリーが多い」と言いたいときなどに使うことができるかと思いました。（aqua）
