Kim back and sides: The bizarre 15 state-approved haircuts on offer in North Korea

He took the images during a visit to Pyongyang to cover the military parade on the Day of the Sun – a public holiday to mark the birth of Kim II-sung 105 years ago.

Mika even had a snip in one of the country’s salons, and says he chose what he describes as the “most popular style on offer”

The reporter then described the cut as the “best shave and head massage I have ever had”.

He tweeted: “North Korean men can choose between 15 approved haircut styles. I had the most popular one – and it's not like Kim Jong Un.”

今回はsnipを取り上げます。　Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)には、 "cut with scissors or shears, typically with small quick strokes"と定義されておりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「をはさみでちょきんと切る，ちょきんと切り落とす」と載っておりました。名詞でも同様の意味をもち、「ちょきちょき」という音を "snip snip"というそうです。

cutとはまた違い、チョキチョキというニュアンスが強いようです。(Gomez)
