Kirin looks to expand sales around Asia with ‘craft’ beer series

Kirin Holdings Co. plans to export its premium “craft” beers around Asia, starting with Taiwan in mid-May, and have regional demand account for 10 percent of overall sales of the series this fiscal year.

The beverage giant, citing the products’ high reputation among foreign visitors to Japan, intends to further tap into the overseas market with three products that are part of Grand Kirin series launched in 2012.

　mainstayを取り上げます。mainという語がふくまれていることに加えて、後ろに商品名が述べられているので、主力商品という意味になるのではないかと思いました。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で引くと「頼みの綱、大黒柱、主な生業」とありました。

　LDOCEには “the mainstay of something” の形で “an important part of something that makes it possible for it to work properly or continue to exist” や “someone who does most of the important work for a group or organization” と定義されており、重要な人物を表す際にも用いられるようです。

　Online Etymology Dictionaryで語源を調べると、 “"chief support," 1787, figurative use of a nautical noun meaning "stay which extends from the main-top to the foot of the foremast"” とあることから、メインマストを支えるロープがもとになっているようです。（aqua）
