'Rock star' Archaeopteryx fossil heads for Japan

At first glance, it might seem to be just a ragtag assortment of bones, but look closer and you immediately understand why Archaeopteryx is so interesting.

It has beautiful impressions of feathers and wings - like a bird. But then it also displays the claws, the long bony tail and the serrated teeth you would associate with dinosaurs.

No wonder Charles Darwin was so excited by Archaeopteryx.

Emerging just a couple of years after he published his theory of evolution, this specimen was just the sort of transitional form he would have expected to exist in the fossil record.

　今回はbonyという単語を調べました。 Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 "of or like bone"と定義されておりました。
　『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版,大修館）を引いたところ、「骨がかっちりした」、「（手などが）やせた，骨ばった」、「（魚が）骨の多い，（軟骨ではなく）骨格のある」、「骨の（ような），骨からなる」などと書かれておりました。
　 "a bony piece of fish"（「骨の多い魚」）や "a bony face"（「骨ばった顔」）など、bonyは日常会話の中でも使える簡単な単語のようです。（Gomez）
