Sakura season: Where to view cherry blossoms in Japan

World Expeditions runs a two-week "Backroads of Japan" tour that crosses the country during cherry blossom season and includes a visit to Japan's most iconic natural wonder -- and most famous active volcano -- Mt. Fuji.

The mountain is surrounded by five lakes -- Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Yamanaka, Lake Sai, Lake Motosu and Lake Shoji -- all of which provide the perfect foreground to appreciate the region's cherry blossoms.

Given the mountain's popularity and symbolic importance, the region can often be very busy. But thanks to the large number of viewing options you can almost always frame that perfect Japanese shot.

　今回はbackroadに注目してみました。『リーダーズ英和辞典』（第三版，研究社）によると、「（本通りから外れた）裏路地，田舎道」とのことでした。特に往来が少なく舗装していない道のことを指すようです。
　『ジーニアス英和大辞典』（大修館）で調べたところ、「わき道，田舎道」と載っておりました。主にアメリカで使用されているようです。
　個人的にbackstreetと同じような意味合いかと勘違いしていたので、違いを学ぶことができました。ちなみにbackstreetは「裏通り，みすぼらしい地域」などを指すとのことです。(Gomez)
