After eight years at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., the Obamas are moving to a new residence not too far from the White House.

Since their younger daughter, Sasha, is still in high school, Barack and Michelle Obama made the decision to stay in Washington, D.C. at least until Sasha's graduation.

The Obamas are moving to the historic neighborhood of Sheridan-Kalorama, which has been home to five other presidents before or after their time at the White House.

　今回記事の中で気になった単語は"dig"です。「掘る、見つけ出す」などの意味が一般的に使われていますが、ここではまた違う意味で使われています。
　『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版(大修館)で調べてみると、「(…を)コツコツ勉強する」や「(特に借家人、下宿人として)住む、下宿する」、また、古い俗語で「理解する」とあり、名詞では「ひと掘り、(考古学上の)発掘、発掘物」の他に「下宿、貸間」という意味があることが分かりました。ここでは新居のことを指しており、また、娘が卒業するまでの一時的な住居であるため、「貸間」という意味で使われていると推測できます。
　また、「見つけ出す」という意味がある"dig"を使うことで、「良い場所を発見する」というニュアンスが含まれています。(Akim)
