今回取り上げるのは，“tee up”という表現です。この表現は日本語でも「ティーアップ」と言い，「各ホールの打ち出しで，ティーにボールをのせること」(「コトバンク」)を表すゴルフ用語ですが，今回はこの意味では用いられていません。
“tee up”を『ジーニアス英和辞典』(大修館書店)で調べてみると，上記の他にも「｟略式｠〜の準備〔手配〕をする，(約束)を取り決める」といった意味があるとわかりました。今回の安倍首相とトランプ大統領との「ゴルフ外交」と掛けられていることから，この表現が使われたと考えられます。(ninetails)
