Skating star Miyahara injured, to miss 2 big events

Japan figure skating champion Satoko Miyahara will have to skip the upcoming Four Continents meet in South Korea and the Asian Winter Games in Sapporo due to a stress fracture in her left hip, the Japan Skating Federation announced Tuesday.

According to federation director Hidehito Ito, Miyahara’s representatives informed the federation of the decision on Monday evening. The prognosis has her out of action for about a month, but she does not require surgery.

The skater has indicated she plans to compete at the World Championships in March, where national berths for the 2018 Winter Olympics will be allocated.
