　今回取り上げる表現は、burn a hole in O’s pocketです。Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)には、 “(of money) tempt someone to spend it quickly and extravagantly”と載っておりました。

　『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「〈金などが〉〈人〉にすぐ使われてしまう」と書かれておりました。

　また『ジーニアス英和大辞典』（大修館）に、 “Money burns a hole in O’s pocket.”が記載されておりました。こちらは「金は（〈人〉のポケットの穴から転がるように）すぐなくなる，〈人〉が（不要なものに）金を使いたがる」という意味で使用できるようです。

　以前にもお金関係のpocketの表現で “out-of-pocket”を取り上げたことがあります。今回もまたpocketを使った表現に出会えました。（Gomez）
