今回取り上げるのはslantwiseです。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べましたが見つからなかったため、電子辞書内蔵の『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第4版　大修館書店）で調べると、副詞または形容詞で「斜めに（の）、はすに（の）」とありました。

slantwiseをslantとwiseに分けて考えると、slantには動詞では傾く、傾けるなどの意味があり、名詞では傾斜や斜面を表します。wiseはclockwiseなどに用いられるように、位置や方向を表す接尾辞です。これらの2つの語が合わさることで上記の意味になると考えられます。

今回は “the corners under the lower part are trimmed in a slantwise direction” という部分から、四角いマスクではなく、下の2つの角が斜めにカットされていることがわかります。（aqua）
