Jade tiepin heirloom found in area charred by Itoigawa fire

ITOIGAWA, Niigata Prefecture--One month after a spectacular fire ravaged the downtown here and destroyed his home, 90-year-old Takeji Yamagishi was reunited with a family heirloom he thought destroyed.

A volunteer helping residents find their keepsakes in the ashes found Yamagishi's tiepin made of jade, a local specialty.

Yamagishi crafted it about 30 years ago in celebration of his son's marriage.

LDOCEでは、“a valuable object that has been owned by a family for many years and that is passed from the older members to the younger members”と定義されています。

(Blue Sky)
