URUMA, Okinawa Prefecture--Defense authorities lodged a protest with U.S. forces Jan. 21 over the emergency landing the previous day of a military helicopter on a small island in Okinawa Prefecture.
It was the third incident involving a U.S. military aircraft in Okinawa since August 2015.
The Defense Ministry said it had been informed by U.S. forces that the pilot took evasive action to prevent an accident after the helicopter developed transmission problems.

LDOCEでは、“take evasive action”で“to move or do something quickly to avoid someone being hurt”と定義されています。また、『ウィズダム英和辞典』で“take evasive action”は「(飛行機の衝突・人に会うことなどを避けるため)回避行動をとる」と述べられていました。今回の記事ではまさに“take evasive action”の形で用いられているので、この意味で使われています。
