“caveat” /kˈæviὰːt/を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「警告(手続き停止など)」という意味がありました。ラテン語が語源で「警戒する」ことから由来しており、LDOCEによると“a warning that something may not be completely true, effective etc”とありました。
このcaveatが指す意味として、差別主義の考え方や不平等など民主主義を脅かすものがあることを明らかにしており、団結することの大切さを主張していたとわかりました。(lua)
