一昨日決勝戦が行われていましたが、青森山田が前橋育英（群馬）を５−０で破り、２２度目の出場で青森県勢初優勝を果たした。

SAITAMA, Japan (Kyodo) -- Amori Yamada High School won their first national high school championship on Monday after demolishing Maebashi Ikuei 5-0 at Saitama Stadium.
Top-scorer Akito Narumi had a quick-fire brace in the second half for the representative from northeastern prefecture of Aomori against their Gunma counterparts, who were also vying for their first national championship. Narumi scored six goals in the tournament.

“demolishing”を取り上げます。de-(=で下げる)とmoles(＝かたまり)が合わさって『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「(建物などを)取り壊す」のほかに「(対戦相手を)完全に打ち負かす」という意味がありました。
語源は中期フランス語 démolirからラテン語 dēmōlīrī となり、「作り上げたものを引きずり下ろす」という意味がもともとあるそうです。LDOCEでは“to defeat someone very easily”と簡潔に定義されていました。青森山田高校に点差を大きくつけられてしまい、力の差が大きく出てしまったと思いました。(lua)
