Instagram’s user base rose to more than 600 million, the Facebook Inc. owned company has said, as new features helped it gain popularity.

The photo-sharing app added 100 million users since June, when it last announced its 500 million user milestone, the company said in a blog post.

Since then, the company launched Instagram Stories, its picture and video slideshow feature, identical to the signature function of rival Snap Inc.’s Snapchat.

Instagram in September updated its safety tools by allowing users to control the comments posted on their pictures and videos to combat increasing cases of online trolling.

今回取り上げるのはtrollです。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べましたが、あてはまる意味が見つかりませんでした。そこで電子辞書に内蔵されている『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第4版　大修館書店）で引いてみると、「（コンピュータ）（挑発的なメッセージ）をインターネット（電子メール）で流す（挑発にのってくる者を探す目的）」という意味が見つかりました。LDOCEには “to leave offensive or upsetting messages on the Internet, just in order to get a reaction” と定義されております。
記事では “to combat increasing cases of online trolling” となっており、9月に行われたアップデートは、オンライン上での挑発的なメッセージの投稿が増加しないよう対処するためであることが伺えます。
