Two more of Kitora Tomb’s mythical murals regain full glory
ASUKA, Nara Prefecture--Painstaking restoration of ancient murals depicting mythical animals in the Kitora Tomb here is finally complete, 12 years after they were meticulously removed to undergo the work in 2004.
The two sections of the stone burial chamber’s richly colored wall paintings, “Seiryu,” known as the “Azure Dragon,” and “Genbu,” the “Black Tortoise,” had badly deteriorated over the centuries.

今回取り上げる表現は、"meticulously"です。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、形容詞の“meticulous”で「«…に»細心の注意を払って«in/about»；〈人などが〉とても注意深い；念入りな」とありました。この形容詞に“-ly”をつけて副詞にしたものが今回の表現です。
LDOCEでは、“very careful about small details, and always making sure that everything is done correctly”と定義されていました。
今回の表現はラテン語で「臆病な」という意味の“meticulōsus”に由来します。臆病だから注意を払う、という具合に英語の意味は生まれたのではないかと思います。(Blue Sky)
