Photoscape / New gyms a big hit in Tokyo

On a slightly chilly afternoon when it was 10 C outside, 22 women worked out on surfboards to up-tempo music in a room as hot as a tropical island. It was 32 C inside.

Surf Fit Japan opened a studio in the Ginza district in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, in August. It is a women-only gym, and the first facility specializing in core-strengthening exercises using the movements of surfing, which originated in the United States. Many members have found it to be trendy and fun.

Each surfboard has some balance balls underneath. It’s so wobbly it’s hard to even stay still on it.

Learners Dictionary.com には, “moving from side to side in an unsteady way” と定義されていました。

(Cayu)
