ユニバーサル・スタジオのテーマパーク内に任天堂のエリアが展開されることが発表されました。

Super Mario world coming to Universal Studios Japan

The wacky and whimsical world of Super Mario video games will come to life at Universal Studios theme parks in Japan and the United States within the next few years, Nintendo Co. said Nov. 29.

The company said it will set up areas where visitors can meet Mario and experience his world inside Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, as well as Universal Orlando Resort in Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood in California.

The video gaming giant said it will soon release more details but noted the new zones will include a number of rides, attractions and restaurants featuring Mario and his friends.

今回取り上げるのはgiantです。giantには形容詞の意味で「巨大な」という意味以外にも「偉大な人」という名詞の意味などがあります。今回はどのような意味で用いられているのでしょうか。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第５版　研究社）で調べると、3つ目の意味に「大男、巨大な動物（植物）、大組織（企業）」とありました。LDOCEには “a very large successful company” とシンプルな定義が載っております。
今回は “The video gaming giant” と「大企業」の意味で用いられており、巨大企業である任天堂のこと表しています。
