With sinkhole filled, Hakata street reopens
A major road in central Fukuoka was reopened to traffic early on Tuesday morning, following the completion of around-the-clock work to fill a huge sinkhole that appeared on the road near Hakata Station a week ago.
The city initially planned to allow traffic at the sinkhole site on Monday night, but it postponed the traffic resumption as the repair work was interrupted by rain.
With the sinkhole fully fixed, remaining evacuation advisories for three buildings around the site were also removed.
After the reopening of the road section, Fukuoka Mayor Soichiro Takashima made a fresh apology for the accident, caused by work to extend a municipal subway line beneath the road.

今回取り上げるのは “power outage” です。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版 研究社）でoutageの項目を見てみますと、可算名詞で「（米）停電（時間）、a power outage 停電」とありました。LDOCEには “a period of time during which a service such as the electricity supply cannot be provided power cut British English” と定義されております。イギリス英語では “power cut” を用いるようです。
outとageに分けて考えると、ageは名詞や動詞の語尾に付き、集合、状態、動作、場所、料金、数量を示すことから、「out（なくなっている、尽きている）」＋「age（状態）」と考えることができるかと思います。
