US President-elect Donald Trump has said it was a "great honour" to meet President Barack Obama for transition talks at the White House.
Mr Obama said he was "encouraged" by their "excellent" and "wide-ranging" conversation, lasting over an hour.
During the election campaign, Mr Trump vowed to dismantle Mr Obama's legacy and he has previously questioned his US citizenship.
Mr Obama, meanwhile, had called Mr Trump "uniquely unqualified".
But following Mr Trump's shock defeat of Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's election, Mr Obama appealed for national unity andsaid he was "rooting" for him.

今回取り上げる表現は"root for"という表現です。root 自体には「根」という意味がありますがここではどのように用いられているのでしょうか。
そこで『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第５版)を見てみると「〜を支援する、〜を助ける」と意味が載っており Word Reference com も参照してみると"to support a team or player by cheering strongly"と定義されていました。
したがってここでは「トランプ氏を支持する」と訳せると思います。しかし""でくくられているので通常とは異なった意味合いを含んでいるのかなとも感じました。(Mt.Fuji)
