アメリカ大統領選挙の記事について取り上げたいと思います。

今回取り上げる表現は"swing state"というフレーズです。直訳すると「揺れている州」となりますがここではどのように用いられているのでしょうか。
そこで『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第５版）を参照してみると「選挙の度に民主党・共和党の間で勝利政党が変化する州」と記されており、Oxford Dictionaries.com には"A US state where the two major political parties have similar levels of support among voters, viewed as important in determining the overall result of a presidential election"と定義されていました。
またこの表現はアメリカの選挙で民主党・共和党の支持率が拮抗する場所を指すことであるのもわかりました。(Mt.Fuji)
